I don't use them, but those are some interesting toe clips. I will have to keep them in mind if I ever need a pair.

I have mostly the traditional tempered sheet metal ones like this : MKS Steel Toe Clips from BikeBling.com..
what I do to improve the nylon webbing of the commonly available toe strap is saturate it with Plastidip, the tool handle stuff..
Coatings and Adhesives, Rubber and Plastic Coatings | Plasti Dip Interntional
that stiffens the nylon to stay open and circular, more like thick Leather toe straps did .

BTW, does your shoe soles have a cleat slot or some similar texture ? that keeps the toe of the shoe behind contacting the toe clip
the deluxe TC MKS made,' back in the day' used a sewn on leather cover .. to be between the metal and your shoe ..
less formal Duct Tape gets substituted for sewn leather ..

How does the tubular one cope with everyday abuse such as curb biffs.
I use Christophe ones fitted with leather straps, used without cleats. If you want the efficiency of cleats, it is better to go clipless.

FWIW: Here's a place that sells cleats for use with your toe clips: Bicycle Shoe Cleats for Toeclip Pedals $29.95 at Yellow Jersey

not sure Quoc Pham shoes are that traditional (or post traditional Look pattern clipless).. OP will have to speak up again ..
My cleat preference has moved over to a wider hour class slot rather than a narrow straight slot as in those.
So float was comfortable, And recessed so I could get off and push my touring bike up Steep Hills..

I have these: Bike Shoes / Mens / Fixed by Quoc Pham || Mission Workshop
and these: SPD-Compatible Clipless Bike Shoes / Mens / Tourer by Quoc Pham || Mission Workshop
no clipless pedals for me: MKS Touring. currently no toe clips, but before the season is over I'd like to feel comfortable enough to get one style or another. the wire cage clips just look so darn retro-licious.
