Uphill performance degredation

Getting highly technical now. Had you of course seen my feet slip off the pedals this morning, you'd know it's all a facade of course.

So I'm tearing down the road at 27kph and all of a sudden there's a 5 - 10 deg incline. I switch down quickly from top and end up in underdrive. I reckon before I've gone 20 metres up the incline I've washed of all my speed and now pedalling like a bastard lucky to maintain 6 - 8 kph.

When spinning, is that likely to ever change?
