Jersey that might get me killed

I love this jersey, and want one really bad. But in today's political climate I think it would be horribly misinterpreted. I just like the design.
So much for freedom I guess.

Freedom is intact. You are free to wear it and others are free to hate it. I really don't think you will see much of a response.

The Soviet Union is no more and many suffer from historical memory loss. Russia bad, Soviet Union who knew?

Getting run over or run into a ditch on a low traffic two lane is more response than I care to risk.

You won't get killed for wearing a Soviet Union jersey. I'm sure it would be attention-gathering if that's what you want, but not dangerous.

Anyone smart enough to know or remember what CCCP stood for are not the kind of people you need to worry about running you into a ditch.

In my neighborhood, it would oblige you to speak Russian with the other Eastern European riders.

Might not be able to, but would love to listen and learn. And that would be cool.

You think their gonna look up from their phone long enough to notice what jersey you're wearing before they squash you?

Depends where you live I guess. Several states come to mind where current politics seems you'd find more people in favor than opposing... OTOH, long solo rides in the middle of nowhere, you never know who you'll find (the Top Gear US road trip comes to mind). I still put 99% odds that you'll be fine.

I love it. And as others have said, many no longer even remember what CCCP meant.

That is a sharp jersey. If you want to ruffle feathers, this would do the job better:

Or show your support for the other guys?

Dream on. Soviet-era is retro-kitsch now. If you want to provoke people, wear a jersey with a burning flag or a picture of Mohammed on it. Or better still, a picture of Mohammed waving a burning flag.

Depends on the neighbourhood. In the Greater Toronto Area, there are pockets of Ukranians who would not be happy to see it, and one of them is near High Park, a popular destination for cyclists. In the Russian area, I don't think it would be popular, as most of them came over to escape the Soviet Union.

Out in the hinterland, they probably wouldn't care at all.

Blue Jersey in a Red state , more a problem, perhaps ? Canada Is probably Exempt ..

Out here Its mostly old Scandinavians .. Finns,
& Swedes and Norwegians , the occasional Dane ..

Loggers and Fishermen , a couple generations ago .. all access was from the sea..

better now than in the 50's or 60's. anyway you'll only have to look out for haters over 50.

BTW, it is a nice jersey.

A guy I rode with last year back east had a similar jersey. It was a really nice looking jersey andt he guy was a machine on the hills. He was looking for work in the summer but it seemed all he did was ride, a lot. He is a direct descendant of that part of the world. So appropriate in my mind.

Not like rich white kids getting Chinese symbols or Mauri tattoos.

+1. Or mark the OP as a poseur.

The OP could always buy it, but doesn't have to wear it. It would be great decor for the mancave.

Well, thank you fellow forum-istas. You have eased my mind considerably and made me realize that I'm probably over thinking it. (insert smiley in ushanka here)

My first thought was only fellow riders, whether on bikes or in cars, would be paying attention. Then again, you might get the one or two kids that actually know what it represents and they would likely be wearing Che garb anyhow. Who would be offended by it?

In my experience, many Eastern Europeans don't have very fond memories of the Soviet Union.

The Soviet (workers councils) never did get much of a Voice, the PolitBureau were the new Tsar.
