reflective clothing

Anyone have any suggestions regarding a comfortable reflective vest for night riding?

I rock a basic day glow yellowish number with reflector strips purchased at the local hardware store. It is certainly not form fitting, but I am able to wear it over layered winter riding clothing. It is plenty lightweight, do can be worn any season. As for it being comfortable; I suppose I am more comfortable in this than I would be in a black jacket riding home from work after dark, it that is any consolation. I am sure there are fancier options, but this works well enough, and is inexpensive.

Thanks for your response. Form fitting isn't a concern here either, just something that motorists will notice. Checked out a company called VizBrite. They looked a good option if they have 2X. Another was a place called Harbor Freight. Theirs was about 5 bucks, but again only good if 2X is offered.

If you are interested in thinking about things besides vests, Alertshirt.com has brightly colored wicking t-shirts, some offer reflective striping. Their inventory varies slightly, depending on when you order, and they come in very large sizes (many offered up to 5X), with sizes above 2x being a little more expensive. I have one with long sleeves and reflective stripes that I keep in my car. Since I don't ride at night, I have done a lot of riding with a short sleeved shirt without reflective striping.

They also have reflective vests as well, although I have never tried one.

At the last REI sale I picked up the Sugoi ZAP convertible jacket. The sleeves/shoulder are magnetically attached so they can be removed and you can wear it as a vest (I suppose you could wear only the sleeves as a shrug as well). For some reason only REI carries the convertible version of this jacket - some exclusive distribution agreement I suppose. The entire jacket and sleeves are reflective, so, if the pictures are to be believed, the entire jacket reflects rather than individual tape stripes - I figured it would be useful to have the sleeves reflective when I'm signaling turns. It just came in yesterday (the Hi-Viz Yellow in my size was back-ordered), so I haven't had a chance to use it yet. Not sure of the sizes though.

Harbor Freight Tools, Northern Tools, similar places will have construction-worker reflective gear. Generally comfortable enough, available in fairly large sizes. But also floppy and catches the wind.
Academy maybe, too.
Otherwise, check at your local bike shop or online bike shop and see what they have.

Here, We Have a Blue Collar Working persons shop (mostly Mens wear ) It was there I got a Carhartt Parka With wide Retroreflective stripes
and a Sweatshirt in Poly Fleece also with wide reflective stripes for when it's Not both cold and dark , late summer evenings .

same Shop has Safety vests ...

Have you tried any search engines and typing in safety vest?

https://www.google.com/search?q=safe...hrome&ie=UTF-8

maybe a solid front will block the wind from the front. a mesh based one will be very breathable. when its hot out .

I wear this and have been for almost seven years. It gets daily use and washed and hung to dry every week or two and is just staying to fall apart on the reflective tape.

It is nice since it hangs lower in the rear so it is good if you are in the drops or have a backpack on.

Jogalite (Silver Lake, NH) makes a cycling vest. Orange mesh, long tail. Yellow stripes, two low across the back and two vertical in front down from the shoulders. Motorists see it (and several have thanked me for it.) I've had mine several years and is like new after hundreds of uses. The rear strips are below a backpack.

I've been wearing this sash/vest for years. It's non-restrictive and cool on warm nights. The trade-off is surface area. Was 4 bucks at Harbor freight.

Get whatever's comfy and add one of these:
Dritz 1'' x 60'' High Intensity Iron-On Reflective Tape Grey at Joann.com
Bondex Iron-On Florescent Reflective Tape 2"X32" at Joann.com

The Dritz does a pretty good job of staying on once it's ironed down. I'd stitch the Bondex after pressing just to make sure, though. On some synthetics you might have an issue with the fabric not being able to take the heat, but I've put it on a nylon windbreaker without melting. Spandex probably wouldn't survive, though. Best bet is probably to find something cotton that you can use as an outer layer and put it on that.

Extra tip; put a square of the Dritz tape just below the little pull-on loop of your riding, walking and running shoes for some extra rear visibility. Goes well with retroreflective laces for front and side visibility. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o03_s00

there's a thread or two about reflective tape in the commuter forum. I believe when I got mine it was "coastguard" approved. not iron on, just peel and stick
