Help fitting new Tires

I have a 2012 trek wahoo and am looking to slap some skinnier tires on it so that I can have a better time commuting and just getting out for casual rides. what would be a good tire to put on (size and model) so that I don't have to switch out the wheelsets? I was thinking that I could put the Kenda Street K830 Road Tire 700 x 38c on? will this be compatible with the rims that i currently have on the bike (bontrager at-550) or will the new tires not be wide enough? Sorry if this question is confusing or ambiguous, I am a newbie.
