Rail Trail advocacy for NSW Australia..the NERT project
I think this topic is of broader interest than a regional discussion so forgive me for posting it here. it is about a Rail Trail project in Australia.
I am a fifty-something Australian cycle-tourer, cycle-commuter with a strong interest in cycle-tourism as a way of contributing to the economy and health of regional and rural communities.
The Australian state of New South Wales is lagging in the development of rail trails compared to the U.S., New Zealand and Victoria Australia.
However, there is some progress. Proposals are being sought by the state government and the advocacy has begun. Several project proposals are being developed and discussed.
My favourite project is the one from my home region even though I don't live there now. It is in New England. No..not New England USA, New England, New South Wales Australia.:)
My ask is for you to check out their FB site. If you like what you see...give them a Like or an encouraging comment or a suggestion for their fledgling New England Rail Trail (NERT) project. Or simply spread the good word to people who you think would be interested and supportive.

I wish Tasmania would develop a rail trail system similar to Victoria's. We lived in Victoria for several years, on the longest rail trail and near the best one, and we were spoiled.
Maybe if NSW develops one, Tasmania might decide to do the same.

Yes momentum is growing in NSW, but it has a long way to catch-up. Each state has different legal frameworks. All the best in Tassie.

That's great to hear Cale. Lovely city Seattle is too. We had a few days there on our way to Eugene to pick our Bike Fridays.
Yes a few more "Likes" on the NERT FB site would encourage the project committee. They are in for the long haul along with their community. I know a few international cycle-tourers already come through there, but it'd be a lot more pleasant on a traffic free rail trail.
