simple technical questions about frame geometry
Hi all.
If you click the link below you will see a geometry table at the bottom. The thing I don not understand is why the Standover measurement is the same for the 47 and 49 frames. If we buy this bike for my wife we have to order it from a LBS and once ordered we have to pay and accept it. So we cannot do a sizing for her. Japanese bike shops do not allow test rides or order a frame size wit you paying up front.
I am thinking if the Standover stays the same even though the frame size has changed, this must effect the sitting position. Basically we want as upright as possible. But I am only guessing. Could some one explain this?
Cheers,
Waddo
SPECIALE CX ? MASI ? Lineup**********??? ? ???

If this is for a lady, here are some (imported) suggestions:
Müsing Twinroad Lite - 43, 48 or 53cm seat tube length, geometry info here, check the ladies' (damen) model
Helibikes Cross - same size options, similar geometry
I'm a fan of online shopping but delivery takes a while. Hope this helps. :-)

The torso length is typically shorter on women , legs longer, so a better fitting Bike for women will have a Shorter top tube reach..
Terry Bikes is a US Company specializing in making frames with a Geometry suitable for that body type, and selling Bikes built up on those frames,
Conflicts arise when the Bigger 700c front wheel is too close to the riders feet .. then it may be better to let the wheels be smaller ..
Have you considered a Minivelo ? smaller wheels are also going to take up less space inside small expensive Houses, and Apartments ..
so as I see from abroad they and Folding Bikes sell well in Japan and SEA. because they take up less room at home.

Bikes: Catrike 559 I own some others but they don't get ridden very much.
Standover is the distance from the middle of the top tube to the ground. Top tubes aren't always located at the highest possible location on a bike frame and often aren't even parallel with the ground. Standover has only a passing relationship with frame geometry.

I am afraid we can only choose from the limited selections available in Japan. And we cannot try the bike before buying. Even ordering a frame size not in stock means paying up front and accepting without ever even standing over it!
We have two folding bikes but they are useless for touring in Japan due to the extremely mountainous roads.
To be honest I do no think she needs a "girls" bike. At the moment she is riding a Specialised Sirrus Comp. She has zero problems with this bike in terms of riding and comfort. Unfortunately, it is starting to fall to pieces after only two years. Hence, the search for a new bike. Also, we want a steel frame so that it last more than 2 years! I am riding a Surly but it is a bit on the expensive side here, though I know if would be a good choice for her.
