Hello all. Im pretty new here, as well as new to road cycling, though enjoying it quite a bit. I was just curious as i live in CA its pretty nice all year around and riding outside it always an option. With that being said i was curious if there was a benefit to getting a roller as well. As in would it help improve balance and form any more then just riding outside too a point where its worth picking one up ? If so any suggestions as to a decent one too get. i ride a Specialized Secteur 56cm. Thanks a lot for the advice. Its much appreciated.

I'm not in CA but you can ride all year here. I ride rollers, not for balance or form (I think that is way overrated) but for being able to dial in power numbers very specifically during intervals.

Find a used set of Kreitler rollers on CL and then buy a cheap rare earth magnet to stick on the frame near the drum so that you have resistance.

Pros use rollers and trainer stands as a warm up & cool down around the days Racing, too.

Elite and Tacx rollers are more spool shaped so as to have your wheel tending to stay towards the center

Most are straight cylinders..

I don't feel comfortable putting in a lot of miles in the dark. Sometimes, work, school, family, etc. gets in the way of daylight riding time, and you may want to get in some saddle time at night or before sunrise.

Riding on rollers can also help you work on your pedal stroke. You really start to bounce and wobble on rollers if you don't have a smooth pedal stroke.
