Saddle Sore
I bought a Jamis SX Cross Country about a month ago. I ride a couple of miles almost everyday. On weekends, I've been doing between fifteeen to twenty-five miles a day.
Well, my butt still gets pretty sore. I have a stock Jamis saddle on my bike. I talked to my pro shop about this a couple of days ago. He recommended trying a pair of padded bike shorts over a gel saddle. Before I spend fifty to eighty dollars on the shorts, I would like to get some of your opinions regarding the shorts vs. a gel seat. Thanks.

Shorts are a must and stock saddles more often than not are switched out. But a pair of good cycling shorts are a definite absolute to start with regardless of your saddle fit. I got a pair of Trek shorts for $35 on sale at my LBS. They're adequate but for a few bucks more I could have gotten better padding. Good shorts aren't going to replace an ill-fitting saddle and you may have to replace it anyway.

Get the shorts. They do make a big difference. Try that for a while and, if the stock seat still sucks and you can't get comfortable by adjusting it, then look into getting a new saddle.
