Badger Trail
For those of you in southern Wisconsin, here's some news about the Badger Trail from Adventure Cycling's email bikebits. I talked to someone who has been involved in this effort for the trail and it seems there's a group of ATV riders trying to get the trail opened for their use. So if you can make it to the ribbon cutting with your bike, it would help.
ON THE TRAIL OF CHEESEHEADS
A ribbon cutting for the newly developed Badger Trail is slated for
July 8 in the town of Belleville, Wisconsin. Although a funding cut
has postponed development of the northernmost eight miles of the trail
from Madison to Basco, the forty-five miles between Basco south to the
Illinois state line are good to go. Once the trail is completed, the
organizers predict it will become the most popular pathway in
Wisconsin, due to its proximity to Madison and the fact that it
connects the capital city with the quarter-mile-long Stewart Tunnel,
which riding through is a dark and singular experience. Click here

I was up on the Sugar River trail on Monday and crossed the Badger. I also rode maybe 15 miles of the Badger last fall over by Monroe. It is a nice wide trail. Lot wider than the Sugar River. I only wish they had the money to pave it like a lot of Minnesota trails are.

I agree with the paving. I rode the Sugar River Trail last September from New Glarus to Brodhead and by the time I got to Brodhead, my bike was a mess. I dumped both water bottles over the gears, chain, and chain rings to get the grit off as I still had to ride back home to Beloit from Brodhead.
