Are you talking about the pasta dinner at the Mt Horeb HS on Friday night?

Psimet2001, aham23, and I are heading up to Mt Horeb on Friday afternoon. I think we're crashing on the high school gym floor that night (which I did last year), unless someone gets the wild hare idea to camp.

We've been debating on whether to have dinner there, or stop somewhere to eat at a restaurant as we pass south of Madison. A meet up would be cool and Psimet's always up for tinkering with his bike, no matter how perfect he has it dialed in.

I think I ate some Wendy's on my way up there last year. My training diet is horribly helly.

Yeah thats the one or anything would be fine with me. I'm meeting one other guy from Valpo,IN at some point, haven't heard when he plans to get here. It will be Thursday night most likely before work lets me know if I'm off Friday.

If your taking I-90 to Hwy 12-18 plan on some traffic back-ups around Madison. Major construction on the 12-18 stretch, traffic info on 1670am is pretty good.

Chump! 06-11-07 12:33 PM

Hey D3V1N and others,

I will be there and as with the previous two years I am under trained. Work and kids just seem to kill the training time. Anyway it will be fun.

DEV1N - Is Madisonbiking.com you new site? Have you seen www.madvelocity.com ? You site looks nice. Let me know if I can promote or help in any way.

Aham and I officially signed up for the 100K, but it looks as though we will be attempting the 200k. Just because. I know I am not ready and know it will be a sufferfest, but WTF-else do I have to do that day.

I'm up for meeting whomever, whenever. I know I was hoping for a decent meal (don't know how their pasta dinner is, but if it's like most then I think I might pass), but I am open for just about anything.

Just averted a near miss. My wife has to work Friday night and it looked like I might not have Nana available to watch my son. According to the last conversation she is going to be able to pick him up. Good thing or else I'd be getting up at midnight to drive in.....

Not entirely true. I did see you pass by the convienant store in Blue Mounds. It didn't look like you stopped either. I was all over the water stops at Black Earth, Blue Mounds and Cross Plains. If it's going to be 89 I'll be all over every one on the course Saturday as well.

I very much recommend the Dining Room in Montecello. It's about 30 minutes south of Mt. Horeb. Here are some directions.

Or you can get off at Janesville if you want to go there on your way up. Much more pleasant scenery than 90 and you avoid the construction in Madison.

Do they have a kids menu and crayons for Psimet?

They will probably make him eat outside.

I just looked at the menu. They'd probably make all of us eat outside. Or do the dishes afterwards.

We should show up in full kit. That's business casual, right??

The owner is very nice and wouldn't mind you in full fit (as long as it is Gerolsteiner, there is a heavy Swiss influence in the area) ;) .

Monticello is a small farming community, business casual means no mud on your boots.

There's also quite a few good places to eat in New Glarus. Just hop on Highway 39/69 for about 10 more miles. My personal favorite is probably the New Glarus Hotel though the Glarner Stube is a close second.

All have great beer from the New Glarus Brewery. http://www.newglarusbrewing.com/

Mineral Point (25 minutes east of Mt Horeb) has Brewery Creek - brewery, restaurant, B&B - another fine alternative. http://www.brewerycreek.com/

If you are having New Glarus brews I would recommend 'Spotted Cow'. It's quite good.

We stopped at Brigham park before dropping down Hwy F. The Blue Mounds store looked busy and I didn't want to stand around in the sun. See you Saturday.

My plans are up in the air still, no word yet about getting Friday night off.

We have an Italian place in town but I have not eaten there in years. The Grumpy Troll brew pub has a good menu, not sure about pasta if it matters. Madison is twenty minutes drive for more options.

Psimet2001 06-12-07 10:50 PM

I've dropped below my lowest weight for the last 10 years or so (by a small margin). It's wierd though becuase my body composition still has more fat than it has had in the past. I haven't been eating much this week (not by design) so I hope it doesn't come back to haunt me.

aham23 06-13-07 06:30 AM

^^^^ i mean this in a manly kind of way; the last time i saw you i thought you looked pretty good :)

i had thoughts of trying to drop around 5 pounds to get me below 170 for the HHH. i figured the lighter the load the better when climbing 10000 plus feet. however, summer is hear which means i need ice cream on a daily basis. AND i love me some cake. i just finished off some fabulous Hugo's Frog Bar Carrott Cake the other day. good stuff.

later.

It's not about being lighter. It's about power to weight ratio. There is a point of diminishing returns, even with all your training over at the local Curves, aham. Lose too much weight and you start sacrificing muscle power.

aham23 06-13-07 06:39 AM

^^^^ it's just some guy love. dont be jealous.

power to what? i just ride.

yes, i did have a great workout this morning at the Curves on Rt 59. those ladies can get after it.

later.

+1 for the Spotted Cow, excellent brew...now back to your regularly scheduled HHH discussion

Just find a secluded spot somewhere along the route. There are plenty of shaded rural areas to take 'a little rest' ;)

nvr 06-13-07 09:44 AM

This is getting to be a bit much. I don't think I'll be comfortable riding with you "guys" anymore :D

aham23 06-13-07 12:52 PM

i am messing around with recursive's MotionBased file from last years HHH. the link was posted prior. if you do the map player you can follow him along on the route and it spits out all his stats. checking this out i see at mile 6.4 there is a 2.6 mile long climb. near the top of it the grade is a steady 10%.

who's idea was this?

later.

That's the teaser for the final climb of the day. Right before you get the chance to turn right and finish the climb up to the top of Blue Mound (the real soul crusher), they send you left back down to the town instead.

It's deliciously cruel.

aham23 06-13-07 02:34 PM

yeah, the last hill looks like a real peach.

^^ Holy christ. The first real heat of the summer (which just sucks the life out of me as it is), poor preparation, and that? There had damned well better be BEER at the end of this little *****.

There should be beer from JT Whitney's unless Rich didn't set up this year. Can't say I don't blame if he hasn't had time - he is set up to a 24-hour ride the same day in Michigan (about 425 miles if all goes well). And you thought 125 miles was brutal ...

If not you can always crawl to the Grumpy Troll. They've got a nice bourbon barrel stout on tap right now.
