Worst Day Ever!!

Got to work this morning and discovered that my worst nightmare had come true.

BIKE FORUMS is now BLOCKED from work.

It has been added to a "Custom Prohibited Sites" list.

There are less than 20 people there that use a computer so no problem figuring out what user caused the excess internet traffic.

No doubt this is a retaliatory move for me pointing out how stupid they were for instituting a new security policy early last week.

Our IT department is full of no-talent rump clowns. It's enough to make me consider quitting.

It's going to be a long frickin winter.

I'd make fun of you, but karma tells me that would be unwise.

Dude, that stinks.

Uncool.

HAHA - You know I've been down that road.

Hard to explain to new perspective employers though that you quit your last job because you weren't able to spend time on a Bike webste while at work.

....unless I finally get that dream job at a bicycle industry manufactuer that will actually stick around for 40 years. HEY! I DID say dream job.....

Oh and I get a laptop that weighs 400 lbs, resembles a briefcase, and has a keyboard with keys that don't work unless you punch them. Just wasted 2 hours getting connected to work via VPN. Their response "the extra security we added to your laptop firewall is blocking your VPN connection".

.....worthless...

Ah ... just about everything where I work is blocked. Fear not, they'll add to your work load so wouldn't even have any time to surf anyway.

(our new hospital database is SO SLOW ... it takes 8 seconds to accept new vital signs when I click on the button. "Click" ... 8 seconds ... "Click" ... 8 seconds ... ARRRRGGGHHHH!!! They don't call it an "hour glass" for nothing.)

I'm interviewing at a place that is two floors down from SRAM's wwh. If I get the job, I'll go upstairs to see what's what. Do they still have US manufacturing in Elk Grove Village?

Right now I can't even connect to our VPN through my home network. I was always able to before they rebuilt the laptop and applied their security to it. The response I get is, "it must be a problem with your home network, or user error."

IT guys are fools. Absolutely no common sense, or ounce of perspective.

The guy we have now is so worthless yet makes way to much. We are left to fend for ourselves most of the time. For better or worst.

Ha! That's actually my problem. I wish they would take off all of their restrictions and let me take care of things on my own.

I can read stuff by using proxy sites, but I can't sign in. No posting and no PMs

On the bright side I have gotten a TON of work done lately.

For some reason, BikeForums has always been blocked by the proxy server that we're forced to go out through. However, I work in the product development group and our network developers convinced IS that they needed an unblocked outbound channel in order to test our products. So I have my proxy server address set to a "stealth" networked PC that doesn't use the company filtering software, and can browse pretty much anywhere.

Hmmmm....interesting. Maybe worth a shot. We use a lot of "gotomypc.com" stuff at work so I was thinking about starting an account for my home PC. Slowly phasing all of that out while we are switching to VPN.

I can not change the security settings. That's what started this whole arguement with them. I can't even change my power settings. I'm a lowly user.
