Epic! words fail me, you have guts just to step up to the line for this one......how's the training coming?

And how DO you train for a ride like this?

started in December with trainer specific DVDs targeting climbing. i have logged more trainer miles and rode miles to this point in the year then ever. which is only 3 years of cycling, so its a short ever. i will make three or four trips up to Wisconsin next month for some short steep hills.

DAY 7 June 27

107 miles (profile) Buena Vista to Glenwood Springs.
The longest ride of the 2009 BTC at 107 miles, climbing 4,000+ feet over the Continental Divide a second time as we cycle over Independence Pass, 12,095' above sea level, at approximately mile 45, and then a 60 mile descent down the winding, sometimes narrow, road off Independence Pass, through the picturesque town of Aspen, the small, quiet town of Basalt, past Carbondale and on to the place the BTC began just the week before, Glenwood Springs. 500+ miles. CONGRATULATIONS! You did it!! YOU ARE AWESOME!!!

---

well, i do love being awesome. later.

This ride sounds too hard. You're seven shades of insane for signing up.

2009 Bicycle Tour of Colorado
Glenwood Springs/Crested Butte Loop
June 21 -- June 27, 2009

Bicycle Tour of Colorado’s 15th anniversary tour… This trip is spectacular: you will need to test your mettle on four, count them four, near century days, two 12,000 foot passes, the Grand Mesa, and a lower pass. Total route mileage, if you partake in the must-do Colorado National Monument ride on the second day is about 555 miles for the week. This is easily the longest tour ever for the BTC. Despite the length, I believe that the ride will be worth just about every mile. The Grand Mesa (which is a first for the BTC, I believe), Colorado National Monument (another first), Independence Pass, Cottonwood Pass (another first), and Crested Butte all offer incredible scenery and fantastic cycling challenges.

later.
That is the BEST time of year, too! Temperatures are summer, but not hot like in late July and August.

See if you can get in a guided 1-day raft trip on the Arkansas River, near Buena Vista or Salida -- You're there for peak rafting season!

that gear should do it - the climbs might not be as steep as in Wisconsin, but they'll go on forever.

Maybe you can spend a few days at altitude doing some Zone 1/2 spinning before the tour begins. You're still building a Midwest engine, and 12,000 feet is danged high.

You will need SPF 50!

Aham, if you're worried this ride might not be challenging enough for you, I could loan you my fixed gear. The 53cm frame should make it a little tougher for you.
