Blackhawk Farms Race & Pics

Here are some pics from the race today..Timmyquest..did not know who you were but if you see yourself, let me know.

I ended up 13th out of 47 in the Cat5. I did not move up as aggressively as I should have on the last lap. Had to weave through people on the final sprint.

IT WAS COLD...so I stayed for one race, noon Cat4/5, and shot pics. I know MJH2 and PSI so they are in the pics. The pics seem a bit blurry...either the lens was fogged, I was shaking from the cold or the lens was dirty. Regardless, here they are.

Breaking away...note the field way behinf MJH2 in this shot.

MJH2 and PSI

PSI!!!! Did you steal your kids helmet????

Yeah, that was a miserable day. You guys should have hung around for the Pro 1/2 when it got REALLY miserable!

Early pix ... the good stuff a bit later.

I didn't get there until after noon, but hung out with Scummer and Recursive a bit.

If you were in the noon cat 4/5, what color jersey/logo did you have. I have other pics.

Holy crap! Chip Grey's helmet and bike was covered with ice! That was totally nuts...

We REALLY lucked out in the earlier races!

The fact that they raced it that weather is a testament to why they are 1's and 2's...

I'll have the pan fried chicken, I said.

You want the 2 piece or the 4 piece dinner?, the waitress asked.

I wasn't too hungry but I ordered the 4 piece anyway. It had been a long day and pretty much all I'd had to eat was a bowl of oatmeal and a couple packs of Shot Blocks. I figured my appetite would come back sooner or later.

Turns out it came back as soon as the "country fixin's" hit the table. Warm bread, cole slaw, cottage cheese. It never tasted so good.

Then the chicken. 4 pieces, mashed potatoes, smothered in gravy. I ate the whole thing in 7 minutes.

Had to have raspberry pie after that, just for the principle of the matter.

Power Tap said I burned 1700 calories but I'd add some more just fighting off the cold.

After time has passed and softened some of the hard edges it's my belief this will be one of the more memorable races I've participated in. The experience was so rich and deep and hard that it will stand out in memory.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we seemed to forge a brotherhood out there. Of course we all wanted to win and do well and get a good result, but beating the weather soon became paramount.

HAHA! Was it just me or did that cottage cheese hit the spot! I still can't believe you did 3 races. Crazy. I thought doing 2 was plenty.

I missed the pie, but had a pop-tart and a 12 pack when I got home...ugh....

See you in Hillsborough!

Hey Psi or MJH2.

Anyone want to post some PT #s for the 4/5 races? The average speed for both races was almost identical. I didn't race with my PT (just had Garmin 205) but was wondering what AP and NP might look like.

btw, the laps were 1.7 miles and laptimes were running about 4:20, except for the last lap. Average speed 23.2 mph for both.

They cut short the masters 4/5 race to under 30 minutes (7 laps) the open 4/5 was very close to 45 mins (10 laps). Pity they knocked a lap off the masters race. I might have had a chance to recover from my abortive prime and breakaway efforts.

I tore up my PT mount in a wreck a few weeks back and just haven't fixed it yet so I was not riding with any computer, but MJH2 had his PT and sent this to me this morning:

Race 1 (Masters 4/5)
28:01 minutes,
11.31 miles
Average speed 23.62
Max speed 32.39
Average Power 262
Max Power 1,111
441 kJ

Race 2 (4/5)
44:43 minutes,
17.06 miles
Average speed 22.89
Max speed 32.51
Averages Power 228
Max Power 1,204
MJH2 is heavier and puts out more power than me, but based on my RPE I would guess my power was in the 240-250 range in both races. I could have done a lot more, but just felt like wheel sucking.

EDIT: FWIW - that would have put me at 3.26 W/kg. Meh....

I've been watching ... nothing 'official' yet.

HOWEVER ... I did take snaps of the posted results ... I'm about to go get that CF card out of the car now. Last of the pix uploading ...

I'll post some of the results here ... Peloton-Pix gets you the results FIRST!

Interesting numbers. Average power in a crit can be a bit misleading. Normalized power might be a fairer reflection but the very short power surges can skew that a bit too.

Weird how average power was so much lower in the 2nd race.

MJH2 sure can put out some sprint power. I've never even managed 1000W peak.

IMHO For Psimet's size, 250W or so is quite respectable. W/Kg doesn't mean a heck of a lot on the flat. Maybe if his helmet didn't perch on his head like a stovepipe hat he could go faster.

Notice some remarkably musclebound (including Beer Muscle) riders that had good finishes but don't really make it into the top half in cross races.

I realized the helemt was messed up because it didn't feel right. I started moving it around during the first race. I'm just amazed noone said anything.
