Help with a purchase
I just moved to the city and got a cheap used bike ($200) to get around (after not bicycling for a decade). I quickly grew to love biking around the city for travel and exercise; sure enough I forgot to lock it up one night and it was stolen. Lesson learned.
I'm looking to buy another used hybrid bike and am upping my price range a bit because I enjoyed my last bike so much and would like something a bit better (my price range is still very limited though).
The bike I'm looking at is a 2011 model Jamis Allegro 1x.
I really like the look of it, but am looking for some help in deciding on what it's worth as I still am just learning.
They're asking $450 or best offer, I was thinking of offering $400. I'll paste the description below.
All help is much appreciated!

2011 Jamis Allegro 1X - BikePedia
The original price is listed at $600. That bike says it's a hybrid mix. It has a fork with suspension and weighs 31 pounds. It looks more like a mountain bike to me. It has nice fat 35mm tires so it will be good on curbs and rough riding. If it's a garage queen bike $400 might not be unreasonable. Look for rust and dirt as well as signs of wear on the tires. I'm not sure what a fair price is.

I'd offer $300, take it or leave it. You might be surprised how much cash in hand talks if you're prepared to walk away.

I think that price is pretty steep for a bike that was $600 new. I wouldn't pay that much. Also, it mentions a 23" frame. That is a rather large size, usually meant for someone who is 6'3 to 6'4 tall.

I share the concern about the fork, especially since it doesn't have a lock-out.
In your case, I would probably bring $300 cash, and if it was in great shape, fit me well, and I liked the way it rides, offer that. I would then take the $100 I saved and replace the fork with a suspension corrected rigid fork.
Agreed with the poster above, that is a bike for a seriously tall rider. I am 6' tall, and although a different brand/model, I ride a 20" with slanted top tube. Admittedly, I do ride a 23" traditional (level top tube) road bike, but that is not what this is.

Awesome input everyone, thank you it really helps.
I had thought the size was okay, (I'm 6') but I was possibly looking at a road bike sizing chart when I figured that out. I'll probably steer clear.
