Hi,
New member, on my third Sirrus (previous 2004’ish and 2011 Comp, both alloy) a 2016 Elite Carbon. Just wanted to see if there was feedback about fitting 700x32c rims to the 2016 era carbon frames? I’m a heavier bloke (90kg average) and would like to take some stress off of the frame until I get a bit lighter. Have previously run Schwalbe Marathon plus in 700x25 and would like to stay with them (no you know what’s in five years) but bigger, terrain varies a lot (previously Townsville, Darwin ((broken bottles, random metal and syringes daily)) and now Sydney, Australia). Riding mainly for commute less then 20klms round trip, occasional inspired ‘follow a bike path until I’m tired and turn around’ fitness burst/recovery. Come from a BMX and Moto enduro background (can absolutely appreciate geometry, so love the Sirrus) as a young fella and pretty stubborn when it come to pushing through and peddling, so weight and rolling resistance aren’t a concern. Really appreciate the thread, rides and thanks in advance. Will add a picture of my three together tomorrow when the sun is up. |
Did you mean 32mm tires? If so, they should fit your frame: your bike came stock with 30mm tires, iirc. Probably couldn't go wider than 32, but those should fit; do you have lots of clearance around the 25s?

Due to the amazing midwest weather over the last few days(and a break from work finally), I've been able to head out for a few rides. Almost forgot how much I enjoy this bike. Also spent some time putting more helicopter tape on, doing general maintenance, and cleaning everything up.

Forgot to post up on my first ride just before Thanksgiving. Just a few miles on the Swamp Rabbit trail in Greenville, SC. They had some bad rains the day before and there was quite a bit of mud on the trail in several places. Figures I’d get it muddy on my first outing. Not the end of the world of course, just goes along with my typical luck.

The "new" Sirrus X that was mentioned awhile back here has been officially announced.
With and without future shock. A few sites out there have articles up today. The top-spec carbon Sirrus X 5.0 weighs a claimed 9.6kg (21.1lbs) with Shimano 1×11 gearing and is the only bike in the range to offer tubeless-compatible wheels. All models in the Sirrus X range get hydraulic disc brakes, 1× gearing and chunky tyres – 38mm on those equipped with the Future Shock and 42mm on those without. |

Overall, smart on S's part to more explicitly hit the (flatbar) gravel market with the X series, especially the two with FS, and nice to see them using the upgraded FS 1.5 on the FS bikes |
I'm confused as to why the Sirrus X 5.0 and 4.0 have 700 x 38 tires and the 3.0 and 2.0 have 700 x 42.

Best guess (only a guess): ability to run slightly lower pressure > slightly 'softer' ride. The 5.0/4.0 have the FS and carbon fork; the lower ones do not.

Understand. But if the 2020 3.0 and 2.0 fit 700 x 42 logically you would think the 5.0 and 4.0 would also. Unless there is some sort of limitation in the design of the carbon frame on the 5.0

Never tried, mainly because I'm not interested. I use the bike with 32s (Spec. Roubaix Pro) for road/non-technical unpaved surfaces. That's all I got.:) |

agree with Badger, I'd be shocked if it was a new mold, but it would be great if was/had more clearance!

2018 SIRRUS expert with Future Shock.
Fast and comfy for my old frame, but not particularly happy about the NOISY Axis Freehub and spongy hard to bleed TRP FSC hydraulic brakes. (Can't seem to post a pic cause I haven't made 10 posts? The pic is not a URL it was an upload.) |
Hi all,
I have ended up with a £1600 cyclescheme voucher - I really want something that can be used around London but also to go light off-road (gravel, tracks occasionally). I won't be going super long journeys so very much leaning towards a more flexible hybrid. I am relatively new to sophisticated bikes so want something off-the-shelf to get going with. Having looked around, I am quite interested by one of the new Sirrus X bikes - I guess either the 4.0 and 5.0. I also noticed that Evans Cycles has two different versions of the 4.0 "EV366583" and "EV366578" (5.0 is listed as "EV366577") - sorry I can't post URLs yet. What are the general pros / cons of each? I may conceivably 'upgrade' to tireless on the 5.0 at some point but I am more concerned whether I overly sell myself on the all carbon frame and actually it becomes a relative curse if less robust etc. Obviously very little user reviews of any of these, so if anyone has any insight to offer would be much appreciated... also I guess I need to get various accessories too so clearly would need to spend additional £ on the 5.0 route - not sure how much to realistically budget for these thanks |

Anyone tried going tubeless on the stock rims on the 2019 Elite? Reading the specs, I see that the rims are 21mm inner width, which screams "tubeless" to me. Thanks!
