Hello
The 2015 Sirrus Expert (not X1) was 50/34 on front, the 2016 model is 48/32, which is better for climbing.
I have a 2015 model on which I changed to 48/33 (not able to find 32) but with the 32 max rear it's still a bit hard to ride on big hills (near 15%).
Ideally I would go for an X1 36t on front and a big hub 10-42 on rear.

Are the hills a problem
I am wondering if the one chain wheel upfront would do the job, I have a Sirrus expert 2015 with 2 chain wheels up front and a 11 on the rear wheel. Last mountain I did had like up to 10% over a 5 km distance, the rest was around 6 to 4% climbing over 20km,and I was peddeling the lowest gear I had on the 10% climbing part, and in some curvs still had some trouble wishing I had a bit another setup...so I wonder is this new 2016 type just for an occasional uphill and town commuting?
thx Frank

What are the two lowest gears you use on your Escape RX and then compare them to the lowest gears on the Sirrus.

sirrus carbon
Thanks for your reply, I sometimes ride up hills that are 20% and use the lowest gear, I'm afraid I haven't rode a sirrus expert so I can't compare the two bikes, I don't want to be splashing out all that money if I'm gonna have to dismount at every challenging hill, maybe its time I picked easier routes as I'm 62 but think I'm 22. Thanks for your input.

The X1 Sirrus has a 40T Chainwheel with a 42T cassette cog, so you have slightly less than a 1:1 ratio, so it should be marginally easier to ride up hills, but the difference will be very small.
If you plan to hang on to a new bike for some time, unless you are doing those 20% hills with ease, you might want to find a different bike altogether, that gives you lower gearing for such challenging hills.

You should post pics and do a mini-report on the bike and your general thoughts about it.

Question:
1. Whats the reason you pick this bike out of a few in the Sirrus line?
2. Is cross chain a bigger problem with just one front gear?
3. Whats the handle with the end edge flip up like this for? You hold this to get more power stroke?

I love how the bike looks in that part of it where the seat tube meets the bottom bracket area.

I got this bike but the "Specialized" word is hard to see on mine.
I thought its more of a Stealth Fighter design with that paint.
Is any other manuf going to copy cat this bike?

I didnt notice just now on the X1, while going to smaller gear, a short pull is 1 gear smaller and a long pull is 2 gear smaller. Right?

Given my age and limited strength, the gearing of the X1 might be biased a bit higher than I would wish. The easiest way of altering that (giving up a bit on the high end while lowering the low end) would be to change the crank gear. Can anyone advise me if this is easy to accomplish?
