new tyres for the hybrid

Hi All,

will be upgrading my tyres for some thinner ones (currently 38c) and have narrowed it down to the followng 3!

Wiggle | Schwalbe Durano Plus Performance Rigid Road Tyre | Road Race Tyres

Wiggle | Continental GatorSkin Road Wire Bead Tyre | Road Race Tyres

https://www.wiggle.co.uk/continental-...ity-road-tyre/

just want to know if anyone is using either and what you would recommend?

Thanks

I've got the Continental city tire on my bike now and it's been on my bike three years and I haven't had but one flat. It's not a racing tire, but it seems to roll pretty fast
I've had three sets of Continental tires and they last and last so you can't go wrong with the brand.
When the present ones wear out I'm going to try the gatorskins.

I'm using the Schwabe durano plus .... recently bought, and so far so good ... has excellent reviews .... I have the 700c x 25

I had a close look at the Gators, but I read too many bad reviews .... If you do decide on getting Gators, have a look at the hardsheel version (supposed to be more puncture proof)

I'm not sure if I would put these on a hybrid though .... I's rather use Schwalbe marathon plus (excellent tyres for a hybrid...)

if you know what qualities make for a low rolling resistance tire you can make a wise decision. what i look for is a tyre that has a lining to keep foreign objects from going past the barrier and causing air leakage. there may be various types of material that are used for tyre linings. if memory serves me right my choice of tyre uses kevlar, the material used in the bullet-proof vest the nyc police wear.
another key to a low rolling resistance, is properly inflated tyres. i try to check at least once a weak. i really hate the thought of expending more energy than i have to, to get from pt. A to pt.B. anyway it is more satisfying riding my bike when i can just glide along.
the thinner the tyre the less rolling resistance you will have also, but there has to be some kind of compromise, unless you are fortunate to live where the roads are well maintained. you sacrifice traction when you get narrow tires. i am only willing to go to a thinness of 28mm.
hope this hopes somehow

I switched from Bontrager H5 700x35c to Continental Gatorskin 700x28c (changed rims too, from 622x20 to 622x19 to accommodate the narrower tire).

The ride is a bit smoother (to be expected, as the H5s have an outer row of knobs), except that on chipseal the Conti tires inflated to 95 psi transmit a lot more vibration than the H5s inflated to 75. Something that was expected.

I think I feel less rolling resistance in higher speeds, but my bike computer quit, so I don't have any concrete facts.

The bike looks a lot better with the narrower tires
