Been looking for a 90's hybrid for a while now. No luck as of yet but spidey senses are still honed. Yours truly requires a 23" top tube length and can get away with riding a 22.5" frame size (although bigger would be better). Anyone know what the frame size cut-off is for a 23" T.T. with these Trek MT's?

You can look at some of the technical manuals at the Vintage Trek site. Some of those include geometry and fit information for the bikes.

The geometry changed some over the years with the MultiTrack series, so it's best to consult the technical info from Trek to determine what years and sizes may fit you best. There's generally at least one major change -- I think the frames changed from lugged construction to tig welded in 1993 (or so) and I think some of the geometry specs changed at the same time. There may be other differences throughout the years as well, so it might be best to go through year by year and make some notes about what you want to focus on in terms of a used bike search.

Hi, thank you for pointing over to the Trek fansite. I had a looksee and it appears that the largest size they made in a MultiTrack is a 23" frame with a 22.6" TT. Hmmm. Might work, might not. Depends on fork trail I'd reckon. I usually ride a 26" wheeled mountain bike and toe/tire clearance isn't a problem there on 23"TT frame.

Interesting! Maybe just the higher level MTs from the early '90s had lugs.

Trek stopped using lugs all around on 94 models. That meant that models that once used lugs no longer didn’t. So any Trek with lugs is a pre 94 but absence of lugs doesnt mean post 94, especially on a low end bike which never used labor intensive lugs and brazing.

The foreign built models were tig welded to reduce costs and used cheaper tubing as well. A few of the midrange models used a front USA triangle with a Taiwan rear triangle but the low end were all Taiwan

I believe you are correct. IIRC there is an early 90's lugged 790 posted somewhere in this thread.

if you’re around Long Island i could be interested in taking that off your hands. I have a 17 inch and me being 6’2 makes me feel like I’m on a kid’s bike. The seat post is almost fully extended lol.

Sorry, I sold it to a friend of mine that is 6'1" and he loves it. He says it fit's perfectly if that helps your search.

i am 6-1 and have a 23" 750. With a 110mm zero rise stem and north road bars it fits me perfectly and rides very smoothly.

I'm 6'4" and can get away with a 23" and 23" (as tried on an old Raleigh Elkhorn - RIP). Here is a Multitrack I'd try if it were closer.

I found a 23” Trek 800 on Craigslist that i considered checking out but ultimately didn’t due to not wanting to spend any more money. I’ve been watching a bunch of Spindatt on YouTube and have a lot of fun ideas for the 700 even if it’s bit small.

720 Multitrack was an import and always TIG welded.
730 was TIG and US built
750 (and above) were last lugged in 93 and US built

Welp, I bought it back after selling it.

Getting much closer to actually finishing it up this time too. Waiting on a set of wheels from a friend, but couldn't wait to mock it up, so I threw this set on to get a taste of what's to come. Scavenged the bars from my girlfriend's Peugeot mixte. They're flipped steel Wald north road bars. The angle could probably use some tweaking. I've recently discovered the Soma Lauterwasser bar and feel like I'm gonna need to throw those on this. Still trying to settle on 2x or 1x, probably using those Rivendell modified Sunrace thumbies to mount on the inside of the bar. I also plan on running tires around the 45c range (pictured with 35mm Gravelking SS).


I've wanted a Mad Max post-apocalypse style bike for a while. I think this may be the one to achieve that vision.

I’ve been watching a lot of Spindatt on YouTube. He has a hybrid bike he threw some bmx bars on and i fell in love with the idea. So I’ll be giving that a shot.

I’ll be picking up a Surly Sunrise handlebar and the appropriate things needed to install it (like a quill stem adaptor). I just thought it looked so cool on spindatts Trasher Bash build.

How do the aluminum-frame Multitracks (7500/7700) compare with a similar-year steel version? There's a 1999 7500 for sale near me, cheap, built in the USA, in the right size and I like the color, but I haven't seen a lot of love for them the way people love the steel frames (and I do have a steel-frame 730 that I enjoy riding nearly daily for my short commute).

i am in the process of converting mine to a drop bar. :)
