Do you intend to do mechanical work yourself? A good starting point is Sheldon Brown's site, here is the article on the disc brakes: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/disc-brakes.html. Be careful with the rotors's side as fats from the skin or some oil will render them useless, resulting in the need to clean the rotor and replace the pads.
Probably a quick adjustment can be made by turning the barrel adjusters. What is the problem you are trying to solve? Do the brakes not deliver enough stopping power? Do rotors rub on the pads?

You don't say what adjustment you're considering. Beyond that, though, is the bike new or used? If it's a new bike I'd go back to the store because of possible warranty issues. If it's used, the "adjustment" may only be cleaning the rotors and/or replacing the discs. In any case, explaining the issue would help in advising you.
