Cheap DIY Specialized seat mount tail light

I was looking for a clean way to mount a tail light to my bike, but struggled with good options. I originally bought a Cygolite Hotrod that mounted to my seatpost, but with my seat height, my saddle bag prevented that from working. After that I put the light on the chainstay, but really didn't like how that looked. That eventually took me down the road of getting the Specialized Stix Elite light, but the lights themselves are expensive once you add in the mount and shipping cost from Specialized.

Instead I decided to make my own mount for my Hotrod with some PVC pipe:

Parts:
1" diameter PVC pipe (approx 4" long)
Two M5x10mm screws (I think, but I just dug through my parts bucket and used what fit)
black spray paint

Tools:
Hacksaw
screwdriver
Drill

I notched the PVC pipe on the ends and drilled a hole to mount the PVC pipe to the seat and the pipe now works as a simple, generic mounting point right under the saddle for a seatpost mount tail light.

That's ingenious! I struggle with the same problem. I've tried mounting a number of lights onto various places--seatstay, backpack, helmet, ankles. But my bright Cygolite-like light only mounts onto a larger post.

I'll have to give that hack a try.

Great idea !

That's why I like Selle Royal ICS seats because they come with a light mount.
