Thinking of Buying this Specialized Crossroads
I can get it for $50. Apparently the front wheel is a bit out of true but not horribly. Is it a decent bike for 10-20 mile trips? Casual 12-15mph some hills.

Or should I hold out for something better?

It will do what you are asking. If it fits, I would snap it up at $50.

I agree; it's an excellent deal at $50. You might even be able to get that wheel trued and still have a bargain.

Non-profit bike shop will help you true this wheel for free if you don't have your own tools, otherwise, nice bike for $50.
