Preparing for Winter

Sorry for the basic question, I'm still new to this...Is there anything I should know about preparing my bike for winter or maintaining it during winter? I have a Trek FX and live outside of Chicago (it's already in the 40's!!!)

I would like to keep riding for fun and excersize during winter but not sure if I can. Should I invest in a bike trainer instead?

Just make sure you keep everything well lubricated and clean - I live in North Aurora, and regularly ride the MUPs around here until the snow and ice start to stick. (which was a long time last year)

Then, I move to "The Beast" (Schwinn Airdyne) for the winter.

Did I mention WELL LUBRICATED********************

I have a 7.5FX in Chicago but don't ride it in the winter...mostly because I like to baby it. I ride my other hybrid in the winter though, and don't really do anything to prepare it for the cold season.

There is a separate Winter Cycling forum on this site. You might try posting your question over there.

I live in northern Michigan. Probably the big thing that I do is along the lines of what wanderer said: I make sure to switch over to wet lube for the drivetrain. I mount studded tires too, but it's not quite time yet for those.
