Bikes: Trek 7.2fx

Post Newbie biker question

Hey all, just recently started to get into biking, mainly for recreation. I picked up a used 08 trek 7.2fx from a friend for $200 and I was wondering if I can upgrade the tires from the 700cc x35 to something a little fatter, maybe 700cc x 45? Can the frame even accomodate a wider tire? I ride on pavement and light trail. Though it handles the road nicely, I just wasn't sure the stock tires could handle the trail. Any inisght is appreciated. Thanks!

Is there more than 10mm of space between your tires and frame? If so, a 45 will fit.

I'll take a look this weekend when I get some free time. Thanks for the response though.

Bikes: See my sig...

There are a lot of cross tyres that come is a 35 and these can handle pretty much anything... Schwalbe CX Compes (700:35) are my fave and they also come in a wider 45.

You might not need wider tires though. I agree with 65er that a 35 cyclocross tire will handle most conditions. Your 35s are very likely sufficiently wide for your needs.

THanks guys..I'll leave it alone for now then.. I'll ride a few more miles to see If a change is needed. If anything, i'll take a look at the tire 65er suggested and replace the stock bontrager tire.
