Bar ends and feeling cramped

So, I cannibalized some bar ends from my old mountain bike (A 80+ lb. walmart special). The problem is, my hands feel cramped on the flats now. I can either move the bar ends halfway off of the ends of the bars, or move the brakes and shifters over. I assume if I move the ends over, they will still stay solid, but I would risk getting junk in the bars, possibly rusting or something eventually.

If I move the shifters and brakes, wouldn't that change the tension on the cables? Or is there another way of getting a little extra space that i'm not aware of? If the Cowhorn bar ends will be fine about halfway off the bars (tightened down of course), then it seems best to do that, but i'd kind of like to use the plugs that came with the handlebar wrap if possible.

Any advice would be appreciated. I apologize if this has been searched before, but I didn't seem to find anything on the topic. Thanks!

Move the shifters and brake levers in a bit, but do not set the bar ends so they overhang the bars.....

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean.
Can you explain further ... maybe with a nice picture?

No seriously ... you can simply move the brakes and shifters over ... it doesn't matter if it's just a bit as long as your grips feel comfortable after you move them in.

Went ahead and moved it all over a bit. I was just worried about having to readjust the brakes and derailers or something.

Everything fits. I'll post some pictures of me royally failing at wrapping handlebars

Gotta say, from the quick spin down the street, the handlebar wrap feels great. Unfortunately it's amazingly windy and therefore a bit chilly so I couldn't really do much more than that.

Thanks for the help though guys, just what I was looking for.
