Hello to all replied and cared and readl. I'm very sorry it took me a long time to post back.
I'm reporting back from my research. I have to say here that finding a perfect bike is a lot harder than what I thought. It seems that all the bikes I had tried felt very similar to each other. Trek FX was lighter but its gears did not shift smooth like Giant Escape. Now, when I said lighter, I meant 1 oz lighter (Trek FX 26lb & Giant Escape 27lb). I think I like the Giant Escape better. Haro "something" was similar to weight but its brake was superior (I mean it stoppped in shorter distances and surprisingly, I liked it).
However, I need to try following bikes.
Diamond Insight
Jamis Coda
Fuji (no idea)
Avanti inc 1.O (it looks to me australian, no dealer in the states)
The dealers for these bikes are in 40-65 miles.
Specialized Sirrus was not in stock for me to try.
Thank you again all.

Don't drive 40 miles to see a bike if you don't like how it looks or if it is too expensive. (don't underestimate looks, you will ride a bike more if you like the looks of it)
I say drive if you have to, saving a few gallons of gas isn't worth it if the local bikes aren't good for your riding or are uncomfortable.
Also recommend not buying a bike you can't ride, unless you are certain it will fit.

So have you finally decided which bike to go for?I have a Giant Cypress bike and its a great town bike, but it can also be ridden on longer day and weekend rides. Since you said you have knee problem I would suggest Giant Cypress.Seat is comfortable and it facilitates easy riding.

Yes, I am curious too. I've test ridden the Trek 7.2 and 7.3 FX and they shift very smoothly. Also have ridden the Escape 1 but like the FX series better. Leaning towards the 7.2 FX.

Hello to all.
As for Trek FX shifting, I think I tried FX 7.1, $430. However, I thought it would have been better if the bike shop had better people. He just pumped the tire and said try it. He did not tune up or anything like that. By now, I have been to about 7 different bike shops and I can say that staff of bike shop makes a huge difference in buying or helping or trying out, much like ones in car dealers.
I bought Specialized Syrrus based on following factors:
1. It was the lightest, on the scale it read 25.01 lb.
2. It shifted ok but smooth.
3. The guy offered me 10% discount and free water bottle and rack for it.
4. He genuinely tried to sell me bike.
So, I bought it at $449 plus fenders and tax total was $500.
Now, I have a nice bike but I need to get better to keep up with my bike.
Thank you all for reading and help.
Merry Christmas
