WTB a Performance hybrid, help
OK guy guys/gals I am new when it becomes to biking. I have recently been doing a weekly bike ride that is about 15-17 miles per ride and looking to upgrade from my Mongoose Snare with semi slick tires. Im looking for a performance hybrid(more like a Flat Bar road bike), something thats fast, but I can still enjoy with the wife at her speed. Light weight. And a budget of $750 give or take could strech it to $1k for something nice. Should I hold out alittle longer for some better deals or discounts? I'm not opposed to a good used(2011 model) one but cannot find anything that I have seen. Im 6' tall. I have visited the LBS everything feels so much better than my current ride its hard to tell which to choose. I ridden the Specialized Sirrus Elite and Giant Rapid. I have looked at the Scott Metrix 40 brand and Fuji Absolute 3.0 as well but need to ride them. But I dont think those are the models I would like though. I guess Im looking for a 9 or 10 speed set-up since i would like it to be fast. I ride with a really mixed group with Box store bike to all out full carbon set-ups but we keep a good easy pace. Throw out some suggestions for me.
Thanks

I just picked up a Focus Arribe from 02gearshop and I think it was a great value. Purchased it to make an upright trail tour bike, it can mount Front and Rear racks. 3 x 8 geartrain so not exactly what you're looking for, but check it out.
Shipping is free, just kinda slow. Bonus - bike was set up perfectly by Focus before boxing it up, so I was riding in under 30 minutes.

I've read online that it goes 24 lbs. I weighed my Medium and got 25, but I had already added a cage, pedals, and swapped the seat.

The Sette Xion is as road bikey as you can get for a flat bar bike. With road bike gearing and 23c tires it really hits a niche market. Very light weight and well spec-ed for the money though.

Fuji Absolute 1.0, Fuji Absolute 2.0, Trek Jamis Coda Comp, Jamis Coda Elite, Jamis Allegro Comp, Jamis Allegro Elite, Cannondale Quick 2 or 3, Trek 7.4 FX and up and a Giant Rapid 1. You can't go wrong with either of these. Just test ride and pick and choose.

I like the Cannondale quick 3! I'm just having trouble trying to find one here to test ride. The Fugi Absolute 1.0 is at the top of my list, as well. But the LBS only stocks the 3.0

$475 for the 2010 Quick 2 sounds like a good deal to me. That's less than half what it cost new.
Couldn't find much on the Sette Xion, just this one owner review: https://www.roadbikereview.com/cat/la...6_6514crx.aspx

These are all good recommendations, with the addition of the Specialized Sirrus you rode. I have a Cannondale Quick 3 and I love it. Almost as much as my CF road bike. That Quick 2 was a great price, too bad you missed it. Just make sure that any used bike is the right size that you need.

GREAT geometry but too much tire and geared to low for what you are looking for. It will climb mountains but it isn't fast.

Somehow I think he's looking at more road lineage.

Fwiw, if you like reading reviews, in the June issue of Bicycling Magazine they selected the Cannondale Quick 4 as best flat bar road bike in their Editors Choice Awards. I think the 1 through 3 models are much nicer and more road-like. A very nimble and lively hybrid.

Thats what i'm getting, too. OP is not really looking for a hybrid.
So that begs the question, why a flat bar road bike? Why avoid drop handlebars and brifters?
If a flat bar is absolutely necessary, I'd go for the BD bike listed earlier.

Yes I am looking for a flat bar road bike. I just need the more upright riding position since I broke back a few years ago and sometimes my back bothers me. If it didn't I wold go for a drop bar bike.

This bike is designed with a relaxed posture, less reach to the bars and higher bars. It is fast and will climb. Best bike I've owned.

I know but he said he wanted a more upright riding position and the defy is as upright as a road bike get's. I just thought the OP might want to look at it. Most of what he discribes is a road bike that is ultra comfortable on the back.
