I bought my 1990 Trek 750 frame set about five or six years ago and built her into a commuter/weekend tourer. See pic. It made sense as I had researched that the 750 was in all rights a 520. The only difference being the tube set. In '91 they used True Temper AT on the 520 which is what my '90 has and switched the '91 750 to a more robust ATX tube. So I figured in reality I had a '91 520. A couple of years ago I broke her down and mothballed her in favour of a more agile Fuji Espree as my commuter.
This spring my fifteen year old daughter, who had pretty much sworn off cycling the last two years, suddenly revived her interest. Her riding style had not changed. It consist of slow city/bike path meandering with frequent stops to pet cats and dogs or taking pictures of whatever catches her eye. It is very pleasant and makes for some awesome quality time with her which I know I will forever remember.
So yesterday, while becoming bored on my home vacation, I decided to break the 750 out of retirement and build back up into her hybrid roots. I had all the components on hand and was able to finish up this morning. Unfortunately it is about to rain so the test ride will have to hold up until this evening when it is supposed to clear. She turned out really nice, but needs a Brooks and fenders for this fall. I think it will make a great cruiser with my daughter and grocery getter.
