Hi

I am looking for a Bike with an upright riding position like my trusty old Schwinn Cruiser. Just looking for a bike with gears ,mudgaurds and this riding position.The TREK Allant seems to fit the bill. Its for the odd pootle around town..nipping the shops and lesiure bike rides with kids so I can keep up.A problem on the cruiser with one fixed gear

What are peoples thoughts on the TREK Allant?

I can get it in the UK for £279..I want a bike sub £300 is the quality there in this bike?

I wouldn't be afraid of the quality, in any major manufacturers line.

All manufacturers make entry level stuff ( bikes )... compromise on groupsets, wheelsets, frames, stems, seatposts, to stay under a ceratin price point ...
Since we all love Trek, ex : Treks fx line ... on one end of the spectum, you have a 2K carbon ( what I call a : ) flatbar road bike ( 7.7 )... on the the other is a bike (7.1) thats one step above wall mart grade. ( I almost typed quality.)

So is this Bike any good?

It seems like a great, take care of it and it should last long time.

Hard to say looking at a pic ... pick a random bolt ( or maybe one that will see a lot of use, like a bottle cage or stem ) and back it out, if it feels like its striping out its crap.

The word, "good" is relative, and tends to become more valid as the degree of monetary investment increases.

That said, I'd say yes! The Trek Allant, seems to be "good" for your intended purposes.

Kent Peterson at Kent's Bike Blog loves the Allant and has written a lot about it.

I just realized I've pretty much turned my 7.5 FX into a more expensive version of an Allant.

I like that kind of set up! If I added fenders Dr. Fine would look the part.

The utility bike market has been ill served.

But its made a comeback and I'm of the view that bikes like this will always find a place in our lives.

Very nice bike and cool pic too (only the first shows up for me). How about a little feedback on how it rides and your general first impressions?
