No, @ 55 you're still under the 60 curmudgeon limit.....so you're safe for now. However we look forward to having you join our group in 5 short years. My 8.4 is also a 21" frame, I'm 6'3", 34" inseam and a spunky 175lbs. Ride safe & have fun all.
P.S. I thought a lateral flex is a play a limber quarterback does.

Thanks for the replies. Not disappointed with my 8.4, in fact I love it. The kickstand and bag with stuff under the seat certainly would account for 3-4# so 28# must be correct. I test rode the FX and you're right Steve, the heavier frame sure makes a difference in rideability/handling. I didn't want a road bike at this time so this was perfect for me.

I really enjoyed the build of your 8.5 and decided to follow along, and my LBS ordered up the Crossrip Elite Carbon Fork for ~$150. It really lightened up the front and the bike is about 1 to 1.5 inches lower than with the suspension fork. However, I am tall and weigh a bit more than the average joe so it sits about .5" lower than when I was on the bike with the suspension fork.
The bike is a lot more nimble as you said and the front end weight loss is really significant.
Thanks for the help!
Oh BTW the bike is a 2015 8.4 and has a 22.5" frame.

I was originally looking at this fork Bikeman Kona P2 Carbon Cross Disc Fork Tapered Steerer but decided prior to ordering see what my LBS could do for pricing on the Crossrip fork. The Crossrip fork is half the price of the Kona fork and has a bit longer axle to crown length. My bike is lower in the front and I do wish I would have bought a larger stem spacer now, but it's already cut and I'm pretty happy with it. If the stem height really bothers me later I'll buy and extension or an adjustable stem.

Can anyone recommend a mirror for my 8.4 DS, which has ergo grips? When riding trails... I like to listen to music... but want to be somewhat aware of things coming up from behind. Thx =)

Any videos/images of installing such a mirror? From what I can tell, it attaches on the end of the handle. Looking at some you-tube videos, it seems like people cut-off the rubber end to install these mirrors. But on my bike, the end seem to be some sort of hard plastic (may be difficult to cut off).

Nope. It's not a speed demon. But it does, as I've recently re-discovered, dual-sport very well. And if you chose it because of color, who cares? As long as you are happy with your purchase. Now go splash some puddles !
