Trek Multi Track Series

I've been wondering, with Trek, does a higher number signify a more higher end Model?

I've been seeing a lot of Multi Track 700s and Multi Track 7100s and was curious if that's the case beyond studying Specs.

Pretty much. They range from straight gauge main tubes to double butted throughout. Forks also. They also vary from year to year. The vintage trek website has all the catalogs with the info

Bikes: Still a garage full

700 series are steel frame. Models 700 thru 730 share the same Tange frame, different forks. Component grades are different. But you'd hardly notice any riding difference at the lower end.

The 7000 series are aluminum frame.

IMO, the 7xx bikes are more desirable than are the 7xxx series. 730, or 750 are more desirable than are the 700 or 720. I saw an old 750 for sale at a lbs with an American made True Temper OX frame. Build was a little generic, mismatched wheels, brakes, etc... but they were only asking $160 for it. IMO, a frame like that would be worth building up with high quality wheels and new, or newish high quality components.

My intent for this Thread was to find a fairly well spec'd bike regardless of weight that would be good for use on a Trainer and Physical Conditioning in the area. I may also use it in the future as well to run errands with.

I definitely liked how some late 90s Multi Track 700 & 750s looked frame wise and too think it would be a fun bike to tinker and build up with nice parts, not racing grade but pure speed and durability

I cut my Voyage short and decided to grab something moderately priced that'll fit the bill;

2013 Marin Fairfax SC4 17" 700c Hybrid Road Bike Shimano 9S Carbon Fork New | eBay

What do you guys think of it? Over priced, well suited to match my needs? Could I have gotten something better? I think for this being last years model, the MSRP is way over priced and should've been about $456 off the bat for these components.

Will keep an eye out in the area for one of these Treks for a low price to toy with and to have as a backup bike.
