Upgrades to Escape 1

I am waiting on delivery of my Giant Escape 1. I'm interested in upgrading the grips and bar ends. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Oh yeah, the pedals that come with the bike are very bleak. suggestions???

I use standard alloy pedals on mine- around $20. Not sure on bar ends since I never use em.

Go with clip less pedals.

Welcome to the Forums .

-Grips: Ergon. Comes in different sizes to fit your hands, some have integrated bar ends.
-Pedals: I prefer big, grippy BMX platforms- I have a hard enough time finding shoes that don't drive me nuts as it is .

Second the Ergon Grips. I have GP2's on both my hybrid and MTB. Straight alloy platforms for the pedals work just right for me. Enjoy your new ride.

I don't know what difference or improvements Ergon grips have over the stock grips as stock is generally the same design. I like them. If feel is different, I wouldn't know as I wear gloves.

The integrated bar ends of Ergon would be nice and maybe the shape of them might be better than mine, but I just bought some simple $15 Giant bar ends that he had in the shop, about the same size as the GP2's. The longer Ergon bar ends definitely look like they'd be better than the generic long aluminum bullhorn like ends that are often seen.

Bar ends are a must though with a flat bar if you've never tried them.

Don't know about pedals though, mine are stock or whatever the shop put on them including the toe clips.

Ergon grips and combination ends. I like GP1s, because they allow a Myrricle mirror.

Thanks for welcoming me to the forum and for the feedback. I can't decide on platform or clip less pedals. It's relatively flat in South Florida, so I'm thinking platform.

Mrodgers is right about the grips. I may just need bar ends.

Even though it's flat, you'd still enjoy clipless. In fact, dare I say I use them as much on flat as hills. You're just better connected to the bike period.

Click'r by Shimano is a great way to go. It's a win/win

I just bought the Giant Escape 2....I love the bike....I put the combo pedals on...flat one side...clipless the other...I pretty much always ride clipless except winter riding..I added my fold under mirror...my avg speed on this bike is almost the same as my Giant carbon road bike...I will be putting more agressive tires on for winter....so far ive put about 150 miles on it and its great !
