My first two cars and my first serious bike (all bought used) were black, and I swore I'd never go back. Current bike is painted silver and my car is the third of three white cars in succession. They both look really great when cleaned up, but don't look so bad when not clean, either.
On the other hand, my wife has a tan car, and it looks almost the same dirty or clean. I would recommend a tan mountain bike in most parts of the country (except for orangish-red in Georgia or Hawaii) because it wouldn't show dried mud. Don't see many tan bikes, however.
I vote for the white bike. Black cars look menacing or cool, but a black bike reminds me of the time when 98% of bikes were black. White stands out and makes a statement, besides being visible (more important as I get older). White is the new black!
