purchasing first bike
Hello all! I recently moved to San Diego and am super excited to purchase my first bike and ride around this very bike friendly city. This bike forum looks very fun and educational. I know this introduction thread is not a help thread so could someone point me in the right direction of posting my specific questions about buying my first bike on the right thread? I am looking for an around town, on different terrain, step through bike. Thank you so much and I look forward to some great chats.

welcome to the forum. If you really have no idea what type of bike you are interested in, the general biking section would be the most likely place to post your questions, or concerns.
If you do that, list what your goals are for your cycling experience. You mention different terrain but are you meaning flat and hilly or do you mean some paved, some gravel, some dirt? Will you be riding roads or multi-use trails?
Will you be doing recreational riding, or commuting?
I would suggest going to a few local bike stores and talking to them, telling them what you have in mind and let them make suggestions, and then test ride as many of the bikes they suggest as you can. Then get the one that feels best to you. If you really do not know much about biking I would suggest that you not buy used or from craigslist and avoid box stores and sporting goods stores, go to an actual bike shop where they will understand the importance of a good fit.
