Hello
Hello Everyone
I'm just getting back on a bike after 15 years & thought I'd join to get advice & encourage ment.
I was active (cycling/running/hiking.... ) then multiple sclerosis (MS) happened. I have balance & mobility problems, add spasticity & foot drop to that & I often appear drunk!! Altho I have used a cane at times, or walk aide at others & also an AFO, MS took me out of an active life for the last 15 years.
Today, my Kids are both in college & independent soooo my husband bought us a Tandem bike back in May. Being on a bike again can only be described with tears saying I feel alive!!!
We are upto 17 miles, which is not much for my husband (he rides 100+ per week on his own) but for me this is amazing. I'm getting use to being on the rode again, riding with cars (scary). We are still adjusting my seat, bars, pedals.... I have to stay clipped in because I must use my AFO to keep my toes from dragging. Our first few rides I wasn't using my AFO & foot drop had me terrified of crashing. Pedals, shoes & AFO, I now feel a bit more confident but still cautious.
Looking for suggestions of relativley low traffic routes in the Bay Area to start extending our ride time.

I suggest looking in the Northern California regional forum for area rides. Northern California
You may find pertinent information in our Tandem forum. Tandem Cycling
Lots of info available in our Adaptive Cycling forum. Adaptive Cycling: Handcycles, Amputee Adaptation, Visual Impairment, and Other Needs
