Hello from Greece via Holland

Hello everyone!

a short introduction:

I am currently living in Holland but I come from. I drive a pretty sweet full suspension mountain bike that I brought over from Greece. I'm moving back home in the summer and need to get my bike back so I thought it would be a fun challenge to cycle from Holland to Greece which is about 2523 km. I basically joined this forum to get some help on creating a training program and any other advice!

cheers!
neph

Sounds like a cool trip; you will be doing some climbing.

Are you planning on pulling a trailer? Racks can be a bit of an issue with a full suspension MTB. In any case, you may want to post pics of your bike and plans on the touring forum to get some ideas.

If you want to keep it minimalist, then think about what the ultra light weight tourists do. You can get two dry bags, strap one to the handlebar and one to the seatpost. That way you can keep the stuff in your backpack fairly minimal.

Oh yeah, and you can get in shape for doing mtns by riding in Limburg and the Ardennes. Plus you have the wind to deal with in the Low Countries.

It's still over 1,500 miles, 1567 to be precise. bag on the back is uncomfortable and makes your back sweat. No good for many miles. Say 50 miles a day will take 30 days of good riding. You can push for 100 miles a day but thats a century everyday after sleeping on the ground and not being able to stop and smell the roses would still take you 15 grueling days.

I calculated that my average speed would be around 15km/h (9.3 miles/h) at 10 hours a day should take me a minimum of 17 days say. Say I take an hour brake every 2 hours that is 15 hours of riding a day leaving plenty of time for sleep and roses?
