Hello from the Twin Cities (MN - USA)
Hello all,
It's cold up here, really cold, and I don't ride in winter anymore. So I signed on here for something to do while I wait for riding season. My handle is DQRider because when I ride a bicycle, I feel like I am 12 years old again, and I tend to seek out the kind of destinations a typical 12 year old of my vintage (born 1963) would. Off the bike, I work, raise a family, and generally live a normal life, whatever that is nowadays.
My bikes are: 1963 Dunelt roadster (daughter's ride), 1971 Raleigh DL-1 roadster, 1995 Specialized Rockhopper (cargo bike), and 2015 Scott Sub 10 everyday ride. I've built a small shop with a heater in my garage, and do most of the work on my bikes there. I like to modify, none of my bikes are stock. I will post pictures when I find the right section of the forum for that.
I want to say thank you to the folks who administer this forum. It looks like a great resource, and nice place to hang out when I can't ride.
Cheers,
DQR

Welcome from what locals call the Twin Cities of the Pacific Northwest! Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington. My 2016 tour will take me through Bloomington, Minnesota. If I remember correctly that is near your version of the Twin Cities

Bloomington is indeed part of the Twin Cities. Let me know when you are in the area, and I'll be happy to ride with you.

I've been to Florida several times over the years. Always had fun there.
It is -1°F with a -12 windchill here right now. I would really rather be in Key West for the next couple months.

Thanks for the welcome! First picture post.
This is a photo I took only twenty minutes ago. It's hard to hold the camera steady when you are shivering. -1°F and -12 windchill right now.
This is my current project - first time it has been outside since I began working on it in December. I wanted to see what it looked like in daylight.
How do I get this photo to post larger, like "10-Wheels" did?

My ride before/after Bloomington - I leave here May 1 so that puts me into Bloomington around mid June
36. Fairmont ---> Austin
37. Austin ---> Nerstrand
38. Nerstrand ---> Bloomington
39. Bloomington ---> Somerset, WI
40. Somerset ---> Rice Lake
41. Rice Lake ---> Chippewa Falls
I was born in Rice Lake so I routed my ride through there to see the town. I moved away when I was 4.

Where in Saint Paul? I live in West Saint Paul - across the river and up the hill. Are you riding at all this winter?

Come on! Winter riding in the Twin Cities is OK - you just have to wait for a nice morning!

Yeah, I've sort of done that, been there already: The Baron in Winter
I broke a lot of bones over the years racing motorbikes, and they all come back to haunt me now when I get cold. That said, I did get to test-ride a Surly Moon-Lander last fall, and giggled my arse off. So bouncy! But I don't even know where I would want to ride during the winter. All the scenery is gone! Dairy Queens are mostly closed. I have an exercise bike in my shop, and some speed metal on the stereo, so I won't get out of shape.
loky, when was that photo taken? That looks epic!

Hi DQRider - I am in the Como Park area. I'm planning to ride this winter once it warms up. Subzero on a bike just doesn't sound appealing for some reason .

I think the picture is from the "Winter from Hell" three years ago, although when the picture was taken, it was still just the "winter from heck".
