Hi from Boston!
Hey folks! Been lurking here for a couple weeks now, decided to finally make an account.
I've had a bicycle (Bianchi Cortina Dama) for a number of years, but recently after moving to Malden and selling my car, I've been using it much more often. I've been biking every morning and evening from my apartment to the train station and back, and I've really been enjoying it. I've gotten a lot more confident on my bike which has been great.
I'm hoping to keep commuting via bike as long as I can into the colder months, I've never biked in anything worse than light rain so I've got a lot of learning to do.
Cheers!

Hi from Boston!
Howdy neighbor,
I live in Kenmore Square in Boston and have been a year-round cycle commuter to Norwood 14 miles south of Boston for decades. As a brief introduction to Bike Forums in Boston, I have posted
Recently, a new female cycle commuter from Nahant (MA) along the North Shore wrote this thread, Newb potential commuter feeling overwhelmed!, and got a lot of helpfulreplies.
I have a particular fondness for Malden, and a couple weeks ago rode Highland Avenue up to the Middlesex Fells, and on to Stoneham and beyond. Even more so, my wife and I go dancing every Saturday night to the Jackson Street function suite, and have dinner at three different favorite restaurants in Malden. This past Saturday,on the way to one of them, we drove on Maplewood St and crossed the Northern Strand Community Bike Trail, just north of Salem Street.

…Since I live in the center of Metro Boston, I have explored the region in all directions, and I have posted an informal “Cyclist’s Guide to MetroBoston.” Another link on Bike Forums you may find interesting is the thread on the Regional Discussion Forum,“Metro Boston: Good ride today?,” though most of the riders are in the northwestern par tof the region.

Hi Stef. I used to ride from my apartment and back from the train station in Malden to go to Newbury College. Good work on selling your car! Check out the Car Free sub-forum!

Re commuting year round, I've commuted by bike in the past but for the last several years I've commuted by bike almost exclusively. All my bikes are vintage road bikes ( mostly I hang out in the C&V forum). They work well for my 32mi round trip but I don't have to go into Boston. Wet weather is no problem, requires a nice rain jacket and strongly suggests (if not actually requiring) a bike with fenders; cold weather requires careful dressing, good gloves, Smartwool socks, balaclava, etc. Ice and snow means I leave the bike at home.
Welcome to BF.

Just this morning on that Metro Boston thread, I read a new post nicely describing the Northern Strand Community Bike Trail, written by perennial subscriber, rholland1951.
