hello from a blind athlete
hello everyone.
well, I had another account on here, but it seems the system either couldn't send verification to my email or the email service (gmail) would drop it before it could get parsed into a mailbox.
Anyway, I am a blind athlete in training and own my own 1989 Kuwahara cyclocross tandem. Anyway, I thought I would get back into being involved in the community here. so, check me out. my USABA athlete development account is the main webpage url and youtube is where I post any vids.
oh yes, and before you ask questions about how a blind person rides a bike or uses a computer….
The computer: macbook with voiceover screen reader
as for the bike, I can ride unassisted using echo location. Mind you, it's not easy and I won't do it outside of a controlled environment without a riding partner along. I definitely won't do it anywhere near busy city streets (too much noise).
lastly, right now I am seeking tandem captains for rides. I need the training badly if I am going to make it into the US paracycling nationals next year. I am not getting any younger, but I do know that a 53 year old blind stoker made gold at the world Paralympic games last year in Seoul South Korea. So, I know it can be done. The word NO is not something I am accustomed to hearing nor will I just lay down and obey it.

Outstanding to have you join in here with us, I hope that you can find a good tandem captain for your training program, making the US Paralympics team would be quite an accomplishment. As well as the Adaptive Cycling and Tandems Forums, we have several Racing Forums that could offer you lots of good advice and maybe even have some leads for a Captain that can work with you. Glad to have you here, welcome aboard.
