250925 miles on the road and DONE

Hi, I’m not really new around here, I joined around 2006 but I made my last post under a different user name in 2011. In 2011 a groundhog (aka whistle pig) ran out in front of me on a high speed decent on a bike path near my home. I hit that bastard head on with my front wheel (trained myself not to take evasive action or it would have been worse) and wound up flying into a rocky crag with 3 broke ribs. Walked the 4-5 miles back to my house than got a neighbor to take me to the doc. Anyway have not been on a bike since June 2011.
Still have all my bikes hanging in the basement (not for sale, never, don’t ask)
• early 90’s De Rosa Primato- Frame is Columbus EL-OS discontinued in 1994

My road riding history, started riding on the backwoods country roads at 12 years old, mainly to get the hell out of my small town, population 1238 in 1976. I would actually ride all day and end up 30 miles away by noon in some other Podunk town , turn around and ride back home, mom never knew and though I was playing basketball up at the grade school.

1982- March enter monastery motto “Ora et labora”

1990-15934 miles
1991-12789 miles
1992- 9345 miles

1993- December left the monastery
1994-2011 return to normal 9-5 job, less than 5K per year
2011-accident, hung up the shoes.

Kind regards to all always,
Remaining in HIS love

I respect your decision...however, not a lot to go wrong putting along at 8 or 9 miles per hour on a gravel bike, just something to think about.

Welcome to Bike Forums. Sad to read your story. Rather than give up why not do slower group or solo rides?
