Hi, Mike. What kind of riding are you planning to do? Road or mountain? Something in between? What kind of distances typically? For fitness or fun? Speed important? How long are you planning on keeping this bike before you upgrade to another? I'd keep it under a grand for a bike. If it's for the road, try an aluminum framekit with a carbon fork. STI shifter gruppo. Maybe a 9-speed Shimano 105. You can always upgrade other parts easily.
