Hello from UK
Wanted some to join the community, show off bikes. Ask questions about mechanical issues and contribute to discussions but I can't because i dont have enough posting to post any photos ... ...
So far, my venture into road bikes has resulted in buying a lemon Bianchi with cracks all over the aluminum frame which I'm hoping to get the money back as it's paid via PayPal. I was so looking forward to it, it's a vintage (ish) bike from the 2000s, rides very comfortable and I knew it needed repair and was looking forward to doing a full-on restoration as part of a learning project about bike repair. It turns out the Bianchi ML3 is full of cracks at every joint possible. At first, when I bought the bike I thought it was dirt (the previous owner seems to either take it off-road and don't maintain it or daily commute and don't maintain it, it was full of sand and dirt) but how wrong was I, when I started to clean the frame and prepare the restoration, it wasn't dirt it is cracked ! !
The second attempt, bought a Giant Defy 3 Composite (the logic is, get a newer bike, let's forget about restoration, summer is ending soon, just get a good one and go out for a ride). The bike looks immaculate, inspected every inch of the frame for crack (you see I've learnt my lesson, so I thought). Brought it home, wanted to change the tyre, take the front wheel off the fork, there's flaking with white powder with one side of the dropout. Now I'm not sure whether the white powder is just oxidised aluminium, the shape of the drop-out still looks good and solid. The paint has flaked off, so is it safe to continue using as long as I remove the oxidising part of the aluminium and coated it for protection?
Since I still don't have enough posting, I can't post any photos to join this community and ask for advice. So this is just another post to make up the numbers. Sorry about the rant ! !
