Hello from North Little Rock Arkansas

New to the steel lugged life but not to cycling. Always wanted to have an old steel bike but with modern components and now I do. I found this forum doing research and it's been a great help, so much so, I have now started buying frames to build up (some period correct and others like my rig below) to help keep more bikes on the road and spread the steel bug to others in the area. Quickly learned that "Steel is real"!

51 years young thanks to cycling, former Cat 2 XC racer and part time Criterium racer.

Ha! Thanks! I'm already in the process of restoring an 87 Centurion LeMans RS and purchase 4 other frames to either build back to period correct or like the bike in the pic above.

Thanks. Its a shame to see too many old steel bikes being discarded because they are carbon or alloy which some think is better. The bike in the pic above rides smoother than any of the carbon or aluminum bikes I have or had.

@ArchaeoCyclist - Is the bike co-op in LR still active? They were mostly focused on bikes for school age kids. Bought a complete bike from them when on an extended stay in southeast AR, a few years back.

I believe you are speaking of Recycle Bikes for Kids (RB4K). If so then, yes, they are still open and doing great work. Not sure how many years ago it was but around 5-6 years ago, they moved from east of downtown Little Rock to the north side of the river to North Little Rock. Last I remember, around 2 years ago, they had restored and given away almost 15,000 bikes. Adults who cannot afford transportation can also come volunteer their time to rebuilt bikes and when they do that, the staff will help them build their own for transportation. Great group of people. I've volunteered many times over the years to help build bikes to help out.

I just purchased this, all original, 1987 Centurion LeMans RS and have been in the process of restoring it and upgrading a few components.

Restoration in progress: I've also upgraded the calipers to Shimano 105.
