New member, just signed up.
I found this place while searching for some info on old Raleigh bikes.
Years ago I was an avid rider but haven't ridden in 40 years but got the chance to recently and have been looking at buying a vintage Raleigh like the one I borrowed from a friend on vacation last month.
No doubt by the look of things here there's a ton of knowledge on these pages.

Yes lots of love for old Raleigh bikes - across several disciples. 10 speed, 3 speed, racers, tourers, city bikes, etc.

In years past I've owned my share of vintage Raleighs but they weren't vintage back when I owned them.
I've aged out of my old Super Course, I put over 20,000 miles on my 1977 edition years ago, I retired it to the garage wall 30 years ago in need of lots of love but with fresh rubber I suspect it would still ride, but age, knee issues, and back issues tell me it just won't be me. I also own a minty clean '78 Super Grand Prix that never saw much use, but I bought it because I liked the ride better than the SC, but the SC was a bit more nimble to ride.
These days the goal is a clean older Raleigh Sports, which I have my eye on one, but I wouldn't be adverse to a clean old Schwinn or similar model. (My aunt used to have a clean looking Panasonic three speed in the 80's that everyone rode, at least till someone failed to retrieve it from the lake one fall before it froze over. There wasn't much good left on it come spring. No, it wasn't my doing, I was actually more upset about it then she was back then but I had hoped to get hold of that bike one day but months of silt, sand,and mud all but filled the frame and hubs, and rust had set in bad. It had holes in the frame after only five months on the bottom, likely from the fertilizer runoff from the hay fields around there.)
The C&V area is actually what made me sign up, primarily the English three speed posts.

I was never terribly brand specific back in the day but Raleigh was what was sold locally and they were cooler looking than most others, plus they tended to fit me better being 6ft 2in tall. I always did best on euro built bikes vs the Asian bikes. It was a fit issue in both the total reach and leg extension areas. I had tried a few Panasonic and Shogun road bikes back in the day and the ergonomics didn't work well for me like the Raleigh did. Its one reason I bought my Super Grand Prix and Super Course. the SGP fits me best.
Now in my 60's, dt shifters are out of the question, I can't bend down low enough to reach them so the barcons on the Raleighs are a good option, but stem shifters or a three speed are likely where I need to be now.
At 6ft 2in tall and 250lbs built like a linebacker, with bad knees likely means its time to face reality that my road bike days are long in the past.
