Thanks John! That bike has seen some adventures for sure. Mainly use it for riding around a very hilly lake we live by. It’s called Lake Buckhorn in Ohio. That’s why I’m overhauling the gears for a real low gear ratio. 😊

Sounds like a nice area; a lifetime ago I went to school in Ashland and know that that area of Ohio is pretty and nice for riding. And, you aren't that far from Sugar Creek and the Age of Steam museum, another Ohio attraction. Good luck with your wrenching and hopefully I'll see your name pop up now and then!

Welcome, from SE Wisconsin!
We're about the same age, and I had a similar bike at that age, mine was a Diamondback with some early indexed shifters that didn't work great, but I wish I still had it. You were smart to keep yours.
Your bike is apparently set up for urban utility duty. May I make a few suggestions?
Enjoy your stay.

- You might consider some street tread tires, if you don't ride a lot of gravel. That will lower your effort to maintain speeds over maybe 12 mph.
- Tilt that saddle back so it's level. It might seem counter-intuitive, but it will take some weight off of your hands.
- I was going to suggest replacing the milk crate with a wire basket, but that big pop of yellow sure makes the bike more visible. Plus, there's no better utility than a rugged milk crate.
Enjoy your stay.

You should be able to find a lot of useful information on the subforums to help you with your work on the Schwinn. Do you use your bike for commuting?
