What can I say...Born to ride.
Hi, I'm Michael Green from Brooklyn NY, where I've been riding for 15 years. Before that I lived in the suburbs of Seattle, where Bill Gates now lives where I rode a hot pink pinarello and dreamed of being the next Greg Lemond. All that came to a halt when I moved to the grind of New York City in 91 to go to film school. I watched messengers dodge cabs and decided to give it a shot so I worked with Cavalry Courier and dreamed of being the next Martin Scorsese. After messengering on and off for 3 years I got work in film and video production in lighting, but I never gave up the bike and use it as my main mode of transportation. I joined the fixed gear craze and bought a entry level KHS track bike during a visit to Bike Summer in 2002, Portland Oregon...the most Bike Friendly city in the US. In 2000...I discovered critical mass....oooooh tabooo on this forum I know!!! NYC Critical Mass was incredibly fun from 2000 to 2004, full of mutant bikes, sound bikes, messengers, little kids...everyone having a great time and promoting bike culture. I documented it all. In 2002 I made a 1/2 hour video about one of the greatest events in Bike history...The warrirors ride...based on the cult classic the Warriors! I made my first mutant chopper in 2002 and then with the help of the CHUNK 666 folks I made my first tall bike in 2004. Now I run a blog in NYC...www.bikeblog.blogspot.com and I make fun of HUMMERS by selling t-shirts...www.dummer.org. I'm currently working on a feature length documentary about the 2006 Cycle Messenger world championships in Sydney. I love bikes and film. I'm a huge cycling advocate and strongly support the tactics of both Transportation Alternatives and Time's Up. Someday I hope these two groups put their differences behind them and we all work together towards a more sustainable future. Let's all ride our bikes and watch as all the oil runs out!
