Howdy from the Lone Star State!

just wanted to say hi to all and provide the pertinent data to introduce myself to the group.

I am a 28 year old cyclist in Houston (which is not that easy to be down here). I've ridden since I was a kid: started out on a BMx bike, I rode a pint sized road bike when I was 10 (a four speed), then eventually got into mountain biking, and then finally back to road riding.

I ride a Trek road bike religiously. Can't afford to upgrade her too often so I do what I can when I can.

I've done the Ride for the Roses (last year) and I will ride in the MS 150 from Houston to Austin come April.

I prefer to ride solo but may seek out some club rides to get used to riding in packs.

I hope to make some cycling networking contacts to discuss all things related to and having nothing to do with cycling.

Cheers!

Welcome!

What part of Houston are you in?

I used to say that I liked riding solo better than the club rides, but now I love my weekend club rides as well as the organized MS150 "warmup" rides.

I ride solo on the weekday evenings and in groups Saturday. Sunday I do groups if I am putting in 40+ but solo if its around 25.

Thanks, bac!!! feels like home around these parts!

pcsanity1, I live in Humble, but I often gravitate towards the west side of town: dairy-ashford & westheimer, where my awesome girlfriend lives.

Welcome in! I'm in the Spring area and ride with the Woodlands Cycling Club on weekends and will be riding with my work team (HP) for the MS150. I did a lot of solo riding last year, but much prefer the club rides -- seems like you work a little harder in a group ride and it's nice to have some conversation once in a while.

lonestar -

I live Just the other side of Atascocitaso we are in the same part of town. There is a group in Kingwood, but they seem to be the "go fast drop anyone who cant keep up crowd"

I was tossed up between joining up with Woodlands Cycling Club or Space City Cycling. (Clear Lake) Drove to each one and took me just over an hour for the Woodlands, but only 40 minutes to Clear Lake. I think I found a great group there! I would think that Wodlands would be closer to you though. (Since I have to drive about 15 min through Humble to get there...

I do ride into Kingwood sometimes for my solo...Maybe we will cross paths sometime. Also quite a bit of good country road in Crosby.

pcsanity,

I've got a buddy that lives in league city, so I ride out there sometimes. a few people told me to ride the kemah bridge - since I was missing the hills of my beloved riding city of Austin (where I lived for a year). Of course, the bridge was an easy climb but a great view.

anyhow, I cut through Atascocita one in a while while on a ride. I mostly jump on the beltway (at old humble road) and ride the shoulder lane. been lucky so far, but I only do it when the traffic is scarce. the I head out to lake houston via the lake houston pkwy and then head over to duessen park and ride some loops out there before heading back home. it's a nice ride, I think.

as for the group ride in Kingwood, well I just don't like that "drop anyone that can't keep up" attitude. a group ride should be helpful and fun for everyone. if they're going to drop people, then why have a group ride in the first place?

anyhow, perhaps we will see each other out on the road sometime. you can't miss me, as I ride in my treasured USPS jersey (which was a gift from an old friend). also, I've got a bike tattoo on my left calf.
