Hello from Murray, Utah

I am a retired 66 year old man from Murray, Utah. (Suburb of Salt Lake City)
I rode and repaired bikes when I was a kid.
I rode a Harley Davidson in the sixties, a couple of different Schwinns in the seventies and early eighties.
I hadn't ridden in twenty years or so until this spring when I bought a full suspension department store mountain bike. Thought if I liked it, I may move up. Liked riding the pavement so well that I bought an entry level Trek 1000 road bike. I am really enjoying it, I have done several fifty mile rides.
I recently got back a Schwinn Traveler that I once owned in the early seventies, and had a ball restoring it to roadworthy condition. I threw away the fenders when I first owned it, now I have replaced them and put on a front basket. Just wish I had back the generator and lights I threw away! This old three speed is a blast to ride.
I usually ride alone, sometimes with my brother, niece, or daughter, but they don't have the time to put into it that I do, so they are not able to go the distances I am.
I smoked up until five years ago, and since then have gained over thirty pounds. By biking, I have dropped twenty of those pounds and am at my ideal wieght, and also lowered my blood pressure.
I've thought about going on group rides, but don't have the confidence to try it yet.
I'm looking forward to taking the mountain bike on a camping trip later this month. I think at least one of my boys will join me in exploring the desert and hills of Utah.
I have equipped it with fenders, knobbies, and lights so I can ride it into winter.
I really enjoy browsing the forums, and glad I found them. Thanks for being here.

Roger...glad to have you join for the group rides, go for it. My wife and I just picked up a tandem over the winter and just started riding in May. The past 3 weekends we did a 50 mile, 30 mile, and a 32 mile group ride. (And this is in the hilly terrain of the Piedmont North Carolina region)

On a group ride you will be able to go at your own pace. There is usually SAG support and adequate rest stops.
