New Rider, living temporarily in SoCal

Hi All,

I am a new rider temporarily living in Bakersfield, CA. I am originally from Houston, TX and finishing up grad school in Columbia, Missouri but I am out here for a temporary work assignment this summer. I am an avid runner, soccer player and golfer but got into cycling as I enjoy travelling and figured I'd also save myself some wear and tear on the knees. I just bought a Cannondale CAAD9 and had my first flat on my second day of riding. Any how, thought i'd introduce myself.

Hello BC, you know how to pick the hot spots, don't you? What are you doing in Bakersfield? I can't imagine biking somewhere that hot, but I admittedly don't like the heat.

Enjoy your Cannondale, though, and

Welcome to BF!

Thanks. Yeah B'field is sweltering but its amazing how much it cools off when you get to the foothills on either side of the Valley and of course the moderate temps over towards the coast. I was surprised even at the temperature differential between Santa Monica and Santa Clarita within the LA area itself. Regardless, I'll take this over the Houston humidity or a brutal Missouri winter.

You have a point about the humidity and the winters!
