Greetings from Maine

Hi all, my name is Aaron I'm 37 in the Rockland, ME area. It's been years since I've ridden bikes. I'm fat and have decided to fix that as I have two young sons I need to keep up with. I can't stand stationary excercise I need to move and Maine is a bikers paradise. (I've ridden motorcycles, scooters, and mopeds for years up here) So I've been researching and trying out bikes. Leaning towards a mountain bike. Look forward to learning more and getting back into it.

Aaron

Hello Aaron, any kind of bike is a good bike, as long as it gets you outdoors (although, naturally, we lean toward the human motored type here ). Any idea what you're going to get, or are you still bewildered by all the choices ?

Don't forget to take a look in the regional forums to see who your neighbours are.

Welcome to BF!

Hey Aaron,

Welcome to BF from another Mainer (York). 2 1/2 years ago I too was fat. I changed my lifestyle and biking helped me lose 50 pounds.

I started out with a mtb but have moved on to a road bike.

Good luck!

Hey Aaron, I feel the same way. I need to be moving - especially on the bike. Good luck picking out a new machine and welcome to BikeForums!

Bikes: Seriously downsizing.

Checking in from Norridgewock.
I rode through your town on the Trek in June, and stopped for lunch on the way back. Looks like a real working fisherman's town, unlike a lot of places on the coast.

Thanks for the welcomes. Currently my budget is leaning toward a Trek 4300, a Gary Fisher Opie, or a Jamis Ranger SX. Ridden the 4300 and Opie. I love how the Opie looks but like the ride of the 4300 better. Next I want to ride the Jamis and a similarly priced Cannondale at another dealer. And Top... Rockland is definitely one of the the last vestiges of a true working waterfront. The Museums and galleries are encroaching rapidly on my redneck ways however...LOL
